Business tax: PAYE codes

The Prudential assurance group has offered to second a member of staff to HMRC to analyse the reasons for data mismatches that resulted in large numbers of incorrect 2010/11 coding notices being issued earlier this year. In a statement published by the CIOT and the ICAEW Tax Faculty HMRC said work on a 'sustainable data cleanse' will start in August when the department has had 'time to gather more information from the current end of year PAYE process'. The Tax Faculty said the secondment would be 'rather a daunting task for the individual concerned'. But it was good that HMRC has recognised the need for outside help.
