With effect from the autumn of this year it will be possible to pay tax and duties by credit card. This seems a sensible step in 21st-century Britain (assuming in the light of the current economic situation one can actually get a credit card) and is part of a pattern that has emerged over the past few years (and particularly since the creation of HMRC in 2004) of bringing HMRC into the everyday lives of taxpayers and businesses.
