HMRC RTI survey

HMRC is seeking feedback through an online survey on the experiences of employers and agents in relation to PAYE real-time reporting (at www.lexisurl.com/eDxV5). The deadline for the survey has been extended by a week, and now closes on 20 September 2013.

Company cars advisory fuel rates

HMRC has published on its website new advisory fuel rates for company cars, which apply from 1 September 2013. The rates are to be used only where employers either reimburse employees for business travel in their company cars, or require employees to repay the cost of fuel used for private travel.

State pension age rise affects NIC

With the rise in the state pension age, class 4 NIC are to be paid until the age of 61. Small business owners in particular therefore need to be aware of their national insurance obligations. Those approaching retirement should also be aware of the changes to the state pension age, as they risk not receiving full state pension entitlement, the ICAEW has warned.

Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games: tax exemption for competitors

Non-UK residents competing in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games will be exempt from UK income tax. This will not apply to corporation tax or VAT and will not be available to support staff or team officials. The legislative basis is FA 2013 s 9.

HMRC guidance on requesting employment histories

HMRC has published new guidance on its website on how to request employment history from HMRC. Employees seeking to make claims for compensation, subject access requests or for UK citizenship, passport or residency purposes, and who require confirmation of their employment history, should follow the new HMRC guidance.

New contact numbers for HMRC Stamp Taxes

There are new 0300 contact telephone numbers for enquiries on stamp duty, SDLT, and SDRT, which have applied from 28 August2013, although the original 0845 contact numbers will be available for the next 18 months. The cost of calling the lines should be reduced for most people by this move.
