Do you remember RD Laing? You certainly do if you are my age and had a dangerous flirtation with the less pharmaceutical but more sartorially disastrous aspects of hippiedom. It was Laing's view (now I believe somewhat overtaken by subsequent research) that schizophrenia wasn't something you got like a disease: rather it was a way of life.
