HMRC’s Employer Bulletin for June 2021 covers recent tax and payroll-related developments for employers and agents, and highlights the ‘disability confident’ scheme which sets out a series of commitments for employers to move towards creating an inclusive workplace.
The bulletin notes that, as the UK economy recovers from the pandemic, ‘we need to ensure that every individual has the opportunity to contribute to, and benefit from, our national revival. Workplace inclusion is central to this.’ DWP guidance on the scheme also points out some of the benefits from a business perspective of developing a culture of inclusion; for example, drawing staff from the widest pool of talent, retaining key skills within the business and reducing staff turnover, and demonstrating to customers the business’s commitment to equity. The scheme also provides an accreditation certificate for employers.
