Tax office post rooms to close as staff strike

HMRC announced on Wednesday that mail centres handling tax forms and other sensitive correspondence in Cardiff and Bootle will close as work to handle taxpayer documents is handed to a private company.

According to the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) tax workers are continuing with rolling strikes throughout the week and three other 'regional' post rooms in Newcastle Shipley and Cumbernauld are also under threat as other mail centres are being lined up to be taken over by a private firm.
